Hey Product Hunt 👋
I originally built PaintIt as a Flutter experiment.
I wanted to understand CustomPainter more deeply, so I started building a little vector graphics engine where I could create shapes, manipulate them, and eventually export the geometry as Flutter code.
Then I started wondering if I could take the opposite direction:
What if I could take a graphic image and turn it back into the geometry behind it?
That became the image tracing/vectorisation part of PaintIt.
A friend then used it and pointed out something I hadn't really considered: he could separate an icon's different parts into independent layers and work on them individually.
That lit a bulb.
I realised PaintIt wasn't just converting graphic images into vectors. It was turning them into editable geometry.
So now you can trace an image, separate its components, move and edit the resulting layers, and export the result as Flutter CustomPainter code, SVG, or PNG.
It's still early, and I'm mostly interested in seeing what people actually do with it.
If you try it, I'd genuinely love to know what you break, what you wish it could do, and what you'd use it for.
