Hey Product Hunt! I'm Huy, the maker of Packet Island. This project is inspired by my System Design ebook. I wanted to give readers a place to try the ideas: change a setting, follow a request, and see why the outcome changes. Packet Island turns those concepts into 12 interactive 3D lessons. You can explore bottlenecks, replication, databases, load balancing, caching, queues, retries, security, observability, and the tradeoffs that connect them. Each lesson has a small experiment, guided notes, and a self-check with an explanation. Try raising traffic, changing a cache TTL, or adding workers to a busy queue. The models show their assumptions so you can reason about the result. There's also a milk tea shop sandbox where you place buildings, connect routes, and try to handle a traffic spike within a budget. It's free, runs in your browser, and doesn't need an account. English and Vietnamese are available throughout, with dark mode, mobile layouts, and reduced-motion support. Your learning progress stays in your browser. A good place to start is the first lesson, then jump to caching or queues and change one setting at a time. I'd love to hear which concept becomes clearer after trying it, and where the explanation still leaves you with questions. Explore: https://learnsystemdesign.guru/en/ Thanks for taking a look! Huy

Who hunted Packet Island?

Packet Island was hunted by Nguyễn Thế Huy. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
