Pace: Couch to 5K Run Coach
Couch to 5K for people who think they can’t run
Pace is a Couch to 5K coach for people who think they can’t run. Most beginners quit — too much too soon, or apps built for athletes. Pace uses gentle run/walk plans (including one slower than standard C25K, for anyone who’s quit before), calm audio cues, and no shame for a missed day — it just picks up where you left off. The core plan is free. No subscription; premium is a one-time unlock, yours forever. Built solo, in public, by a developer learning to run himself.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I’m Philip, a software engineer from Sweden, and I built Pace mostly on nights and weekends, while learning to run myself.
Every running app I opened felt built for people who already run: splits, cadence, VO₂ max, dashboards full of numbers, and one rigid plan that, if it got too hard, just left you feeling like you’d failed. And most beginners do quit Couch to 5K - a lot of them around week 5.
So Pace is the opposite. It’s a calm coach, not a dashboard. There’s a gentler plan that ramps up slower than standard C25K, for anyone who’s tried before and stopped, and it never shames you for a missed day — it just picks up where you left off. The core journey is free, and there’s no subscription; the after-5K stuff is a one-time unlock you own forever.
I won’t pretend I reinvented running - C25K is a proven method lots of apps use. What I cared about was the experience: making it feel possible for people who are sure they can’t.
(Launch lesson: Apple rejected my first submission because a screenshot said the word “free.” You live, you learn.)
I’d love feedback - especially from anyone who’s tried to start running and bounced off. What made you stop, and what would’ve helped you keep going?
