Top comment

The goal with Outcharity was simple: take advantage of the outbid hype to do some serious good. 95% of all contributions go to charity, specifically St Jude Children's Research Hospital. To establish legitimacy, the repository is public on Github and open source. You can investigate all the code and verify for yourself that all payments are automatically handled. Outcharity uses goodAPI to send the funds to St Jude. This has been an odd and fun little experiment. I'm proud to say almost ten companies have contributed, but it's hardly as much as what I'd hoped it could do. But there's a benefit to that - it still costs very little to get your company to the top of the leaderboard and you never know, maybe yours will be the one to really help Outcharity gain momentum and end up raising a lot of money. At the time of posting, just $7 will get you to the top. I kicked this off with $100 of my own money to make sure at least *something* somewhat substantial makes its way out there but I left myself off the board to encourage others to start low. Let's do some good together!

Who hunted Outcharity?

Outcharity was hunted by Kyle Serrecchia. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
