OpenWhen
Letters that stay sealed until the right moment
In February OpenWhen was a Valentine's love letter. Now it's sealed letters for any moment. Lock one to a date, or to a question only they can answer. We can email it to them and nudge them the day it opens. New since then: note jars that open one note a day, group jars a whole team signs, a hand-drawn signature, and replies so they can write back. Still free, and still no account for anyone. Premium is one payment, never a subscription.
Hi PH, I'm Albert. I built OpenWhen in Amsterdam, and this is its second launch.
Open When letters are a stack of envelopes that say "open when you miss me", "open when you can't sleep", "open on your birthday". People have made them on paper for years. Paper has two problems. You have to be in the same place to hand them over, and nothing stops someone opening all twelve on the first night.
So each letter here is sealed. You pick when it opens: a date, or a moment they choose themselves. You can add a question only the right person knows the answer to. When it's time, they hold the wax seal until it breaks, and then they read it.
The first launch was a Valentine's toy. Since then more than 48,000 letters have been sealed, and they told me what it's actually for: long distance partners, someone deploying, a kid leaving for college, a best friend's birthday, a letter to yourself a year from now. So that's what I built for. Note jars give out one note a day. Group jars let a whole family or team sign one thing together.
A few rules I held myself to:
- No account for anyone. Not you, not them.
- Free to write and send. The upgrade is paid once, never a subscription.
- Letters don't expire.
I'd love to hear what moment you'd write one for. And if something breaks, tell me here and I'll fix it today.

Who hunted OpenWhen?
OpenWhen was hunted by albert nahas. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
