Open-source video editor you run by chatting with AI agents
Open-source, agent-first AI video editor for macOS and Windows. Describe the film — agents cut the timeline, add motion and sound, and review the render.
Hi, I made this.
OpenVids is a desktop video editor where you describe what you want in chat and agents edit the timeline. A director agent splits the work between specialists (editor, vision, motion design, audio, research), and you watch the timeline change while they work. It's still a normal editor underneath, so you can fix things by hand.
It's a fork of HeyGen's HyperFrames. There's no account and no cloud: you bring your own API key and the project is a folder of files on your machine.
All your video projects live in one place, instead of being scattered across messy chats in Claude Code or Codex.
Two things I built because the first version was bad:
- Agents kept saying "done" on videos with black frames or dead audio. Now every prompt gets rendered and checked, and the agents fix what they find.
- One bad prompt could wreck a project. Now every prompt is a checkpoint you can revert.
Rough edges: builds aren't signed so your OS will complain on first launch. Chrome and FFmpeg are needed for rendering, but the first-run setup checks for them and installs what's missing.
The demo video was made in the editor itself.
It's early, so I'd love to hear what breaks on real footage.

Who hunted OpenVids?
OpenVids was hunted by Roman. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
