I built OpenThorn because I loved tools like Lovable and Base44 but didn't love paying a subscription on top of the AI costs already baked into them. So I made the open version: you bring your own API key (currently 17 providers supported, including local models via Ollama), and you only ever pay your provider directly — at cost.
A few things I'm proud of under the hood:
The agent doesn't just generate code — it keeps a plan, runs compile checks, and does interactive smoke tests on your site before calling it done. (It's goal was to make it similar to Claude Code)
The entire preview pipeline runs in your browser via WebAssembly. No server round-trips — edits compile and render instantly.
Fully open source. Self-host it, fork it, or just read how the agent works.
