Open Contexts
Switch, search, and group your Mac windows
Switch between individual Mac windows, search app names and window titles, and keep related windows in saved groups. A native Swift app with a persistent app bar. Free and open source.
Hi Product Hunt! I'm the maintainer of Open Contexts.
When several browser, editor, and terminal windows are open, switching to an app is only part of the job. Open Contexts puts individual windows in a compact list, so you can select the window you need with the keyboard or from a persistent app bar.
It recreates the window switcher and app bar experience of Contexts and adds saved custom window groups. The current version also lets you search app names and window titles while holding the switcher shortcut. It is an independent project built with Swift, AppKit, and SwiftUI, free under Apache 2.0.
You can place the bar on the left, right, or bottom edge and organize windows from different apps by task. Groups organize the window list; they do not reopen apps or restore desktop window layouts. Search currently supports printable ASCII, and trackpad switching gestures are not supported.
It requires macOS 13 or later and Accessibility permission. You can try the interactive demo on the website, download the app, or inspect the source on GitHub.
I'd appreciate feedback on the switching workflow, search, and how you would group windows in your day-to-day work. Thanks for taking a look!
