OneLinkWins
King of the hill for startups: $1 more takes the spot
One spot. One link. One winner, until the next one. Take it for $1 more than the last takeover and hold it as long as nobody pays more. Reign timers, rivalries, and badges make it a game; a free widget lets any site show the spot and earn credits.
OneLinkWins is one paid spot. Whoever holds it gets their startup’s logo, a link and one short message on the homepage and in a widget that other sites can embed.
How it works:
The first takeover cost $1. Every takeover after that costs exactly $1 more than the one before, and the price never goes down.
You keep the spot until someone else takes it. That can be a minute or a week.
If someone takes the spot while you’re still paying, your card isn’t charged.
Every takeover stays in the hall of fame with how long it held the spot. Badges come from that history. Night Watch is for holding it from midnight to 6am (Berlin time), Avenger for taking it back within 5 minutes, and Rival for taking it from the same startup three times. Whoever is currently #1 for longest reign, most retakes, or total spent gets a title badge.
If you run a site, you can embed the widget for free. Every 1,000 unique impressions earn you $1 in credits, which can cover up to half the price of your takeover.
It’s inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage and this summer’s outbid.lol. The differences are one spot instead of a leaderboard, a fixed $1 step instead of open bidding, and the widget, so the spot isn’t limited to one page.
It went live on Sunday night, and the next takeover costs $3. I’d especially like feedback on the mechanics: does the fixed +$1 step feel fair, or would you change it?
