One Small Thing
Something to do, right now
One Small Thing has one job. Tap one of three lines — bored, nothing sounds interesting, today felt like nothing — and it hands you a single card: one specific thing you could start in the next minute, plus why that one. Too much? Say "lighter". Then close the app and go do it. It works with the wifi off — no server, the whole 1,200+ library ships inside the app. No account. No analytics, no ads, no streaks, no push notifications. The app is a success when you've closed it.

Who hunted One Small Thing?
One Small Thing was hunted by David Qi. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community. Hi Product Hunt 👋
I made this because of a loop I couldn't get out of: bored → pick up phone → forty minutes gone → more bored than before. Every "beat boredom" app I tried had a feed in it, so it was just the loop again with nicer icons.
One Small Thing has one job. You tap one of three lines — bored, nothing sounds interesting, today felt like nothing — and it hands you a single card: one specific thing you could start in the next minute, plus why that one. Too much? Say "lighter". Don't want to go out? Say so. Then you close the app and go do it.
Three things I decided up front and didn't budge on:
- It works with the wifi off. There is no server; the whole 1,200+ library ships inside the app.
- There's no account. Nothing to sign up for; your history stays in a local database on your phone.
- It doesn't measure you. No analytics SDK, no ad SDK, no streak, no push notification pulling you back. The app is a success when you've closed it.
The cost of that: I genuinely can't see what people do with it. So I'd really like to hear it directly — what did it suggest, and did you actually do it? If it hands you something stupid, tell me and I'll fix that entry.
Free with 300 activities. One-time $3.99 unlocks all 1,200+ — that's the only purchase in the app, no subscription, no ads, no consumables. Built solo with Expo.
