Hi Product Hunt 👋 The trigger: a 40-minute subway ride with one bar of signal」/「a flight with my kid and a tablet full of games that all wanted to phone home. I opened the games I already had on my phone and every single one of them showed a spinner, a login wall, or an ad that couldn't load — so the game wouldn't start either. That's the problem: "works offline" is claimed far more often than it's true. Most apps cache the shell and forget one small file — a font, an icon, one script — and that one file is what breaks the screen at exactly the wrong moment. So I built the boring version. Offline Game Hub is nine classics — 2048, Sudoku, Minesweeper, Snake, Tic Tac Toe, Paddle Battle, Four in a Row, 15 Puzzle, and a real 3D Magic Cube — as static files with every byte needed to play stored before you lose signal. No accounts, no cookie banner, no leaderboards, no server that could be down. Install it, turn the wifi off, it plays. 73 files, about 2 MB installed, ~590 KB on your first visit. Free, English + 中文. How the approach changed while building it: 1. Precaching the shell isn't enough — I precache everything, and that forced a hard budget. The rule became: first visit must stay under 600 KB over the wire. Every new game has to fit in what's left. 2. I deleted one of my own guard rails. It capped total disk size — which meant normal growth set it off, and I'd just raise the number each time. A budget you're supposed to negotiate with is fine; an alarm that normal growth triggers is a defect. 3. The one that actually changed how I work: I had ~1,000 automated checks passing and still shipped things that were visibly wrong, because those checks read bytes, not pixels. So I wrote a tiny zero-dependency script that drives my own Chrome and screenshots each screen. It immediately caught colors silently rendering white in WebGL, and a Snake board whose "squares" were 90×37 rectangles on a desktop monitor. Now I look at every screen before I ship. The honest trade-off: your progress lives in your browser, on that device. It doesn't follow you to another phone — and nobody, including me, can see it. Syncing would need accounts and a database and a reason for you to trust me with both. Ads, when they come, will only load when you're online and only next to the articles — never on the game screen. I'd love to know: which game do you want next, and what's the app that most recently lied to you about working offline? 🛫
