Oddjobby
The odd jobs, done. Free tools that never upload your files.
Oddjobby is a handy set of free browser tools for PDFs, images, UK take-home pay, clothing sizes, unit conversions and word counts. Files stay on your device and are not uploaded.
Hi IH 👋 I'm Ian. Last week I launched [Oddjobby](https://oddjobby.co.uk/), a free set of everyday tools for people in the UK.
The problem. Every time I needed to merge two PDFs or convert an iPhone photo, the sites wanted me to upload the file to their server. That's fine for a meme, but not for a payslip or a passport scan. So Oddjobby's PDF and image tools run entirely in the browser, and your files never leave your device.
What's in it:
PDF tools (merge, split, compress, reorder) and image tools (HEIC to JPG, compress, resize)
UK calculators on 2026/27 HMRC figures: take-home pay, stamp duty, mortgage, and capital gains tax with HMRC's share matching rules
Size and unit converters (UK, US and EU clothing and shoe sizes, stones to kg, gas marks)
An Irish sister site, [Handy Yoke](https://handyyoke.ie/), with Irish tax, USC and PRSI calculators
The model. It's free with no sign-up and will be funded by ads. AdSense is under review.
The first few days, honestly:
Small numbers so far: [X] real visits on launch day, peaking at [X] after a Reddit post.
Google indexed most pages within 3 days of submitting the sitemap.
Writing guides that answer specific questions (like "the 60% tax trap") seems a better bet for a new site than competing on "merge PDF".
What I'd love feedback on:
Would you trust "files stay on your device" on a site with ads?
Is a UK/Ireland focus a strength or too narrow?
Any tool you'd want that's missing?
Happy to share numbers as it grows.
Before posting, fill in the [X] figures from your daily traffic emails. Indie Hackers usually lets you link your own product in a post like this, and the product page you create there links to the site too.

Who hunted Oddjobby?
Oddjobby was hunted by Ian Hamblen. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
