Obolus was hunted by Michael. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community. Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Obolus after noticing how often international job offers get compared by gross salary alone.
But €60k in Germany, Austria or Ireland can lead to a very different monthly reality once taxes, housing, healthcare and everyday costs are included.
Obolus turns that decision into one guided flow:
→ calculate take-home pay
→ compare rent and cost of living
→ see what actually remains each month
→ turn the result into a budget and longer-term savings outlook
It currently supports 8 countries. Under the hood, the same payroll/tax engine is also available through a public API and MCP.
I’m especially interested in feedback on two things:
Does the flow from salary → tax → housing → monthly remainder feel intuitive?
Which country or relocation scenario would you want to compare next?
Thanks for taking a look — especially if you’ve ever had to decide whether an offer abroad was actually worth it.
