I built Numi because I hated the irony of nutrition apps: the very people who need clarity about food get a spreadsheet.
Every "calorie tracker" I tried — MyFitnessPal, Cronometer, Lose It — made me search a database, type portions, scan barcodes. After two weeks I'd quit. Not because I didn't care, but because the friction was bigger than the insight I got back.
Numi flips that. You point your iPhone camera at a meal. AI identifies it, calculates calories, macros, and glycemic impact, and — the part I care about most — tells you what it means for your body and goals. Not just numbers. Interpretation.
The hardest part wasn't the food recognition. It was the "Body Engine" — modeling each user's actual metabolism over time instead of giving generic advice. We went through three full rewrites of that layer before it felt honest.
