Now - Your Desktop Pixel Companion
Your desktop's pixel companion for time and focus
Now is a tiny always-on-top widget for Windows with a pixel companion that lives on your desktop. Watch your day, week, month and year tick by as progress bars, run Pomodoros, track countdowns and daily goals, and jot quick notes. Type = to calculate, > to launch apps, and; to expand snippets anywhere. See-through and click-through until you hold Ctrl. One-time purchase, no account. macOS & Linux coming soon.
I've always felt that modern productivity tools, while powerful, can feel a bit sterile and stressful. I wanted a tool that kept me focused and aware of my time, but also brought a little bit of joy and nostalgia to my desktop. That's why I built Now—think Tamagotchi meets your daily productivity stack.
It's a small, always-on-top Windows widget that lives on your screen to help you track your day, but with a pixel art companion keeping you company.
Here is what makes it special:
👾 Your Desktop Companion: Choose from 6 pixel buddies (Ghost, Cat, Robot, Frog, Skull, Ninja). They cheer you on when you hit milestones, react with their own unique sounds, and even doze off when you step away from your computer. More companions can be added as .nowpack character packs!
⏱️ Time & Focus: Visualize your progress through the day, week, month, and year. It includes a built-in Pomodoro timer with visual rings and custom trackers for daily goals or countdowns.
⚡ Built for Speed: It's not just a clock. Hit Ctrl + \ from any app to jot down a quick note. Type = to use the calculator (your companion shows the answer in its speech bubble!), type > to launch apps, or use ;; triggers for text expansion snippets.
🪟 Truly Unobtrusive: The widget is see-through and fully click-through so it never interrupts your workflow (just hold Ctrl to interact). Need ultimate focus? Double-click to minimize it to just your companion.
🎧 Ambience & Stats: Smooth ambient sounds (rain, cafe, snow, forest), local weather, and live system info (CPU, RAM) keep you grounded and informed.
No accounts, no sign-ins, no subscription. Activate once with your license key, and Now works offline from then on. It's available today for Windows 10 and 11, and macOS and Linux versions are coming soon.
I'll be hanging out in the comments all day! I'd love to hear your feedback, answer any questions, and see which pixel companion you choose to adopt first.
What kind of .nowpack character would you love to see added next?
