nooks — a household todo app
Self-hosted lists your agents and your household share
nooks is a shared todo list you run on your own hardware. One Go binary, one SQLite file you can copy. A built-in MCP server lets your coding agents write into the same lists you open in a browser, tick on your phone, and print for the shop. No telemetry, no account anywhere but yours.
My coding agents kept producing todo lists that lived and died in a chat log. I wanted somewhere they could put them that I'd still be able to read next week and the same place my flat keeps the shopping list, because it turns out those are the same thing.
nooks is a list app you run yourself. One binary, one SQLite file you can copy, `docker run` and it's up. Postgres if you'd rather.
An MCP server is built in, which is the part I actually built this for. Point an agent at your instance with a scoped token, you pick which lists it can see and whether it may delete anything. The list it writes to is the same list you open in a browser, tick on your phone, and hand to someone else.
The printed page is a real output. A4, proper checkboxes, quantities in mono, and three blank lines at the bottom for whatever you remember in the shop. Not a print stylesheet bolted onto a web page.
No email server. Join requests and password resets happen inside the app. Asking someone who's self-hosting a todo list to configure SMTP is how they stop self-hosting.
What it deliberately doesn't do: reminders, push notifications, file attachments, sub-lists. None of them are ruled out they're just not in v1.
