This came out of noticing the same pattern on every SaaS project I've touched: a welcome email, a password reset, a receipt, a dunning notice, each one usually built separately, in a slightly different style, by whoever had five minutes that week. Nothing shared, nothing consistent, and changing a brand colour meant editing twelve files by hand.
I started with plain HTML tables, the usual way anyone hand-codes an email. That got old fast once there were more than two or three templates to keep in sync. Nimbus is what came out of rebuilding it properly: one shared design system in MJML, so a header, footer, or button style change propagates to every template automatically, plus semantic colour states so a payment-failed email actually looks urgent instead of just saying so in words.
