NetCheck
Know your internet is actually working, not just your Wi-Fi
NetCheck sits quietly in your menu bar as a single dot — green when you have internet, grey when you don't. A lightweight menu bar app for macOS.
Hey everyone — I'm Tulon, the developer behind NetCheck.
macOS shows Wi-Fi bars, but there's no built-in way to know if the internet is actually working — not just the local network. Most existing tools for this are paid, and the free ones feel cluttered or outdated. I wanted something minimal, so I built it myself.
There was also a more specific trigger: I use Claude Code (Anthropic's AI CLI tool) for development. When a long AI task is running in the background, a dropped connection can silently break the whole session — and you only find out when it's too late. I needed a persistent indicator always visible in my menu bar.
NetCheck is that indicator. A single dot: green means really online, grey means you're not. It launches at login so it's always there — you never have to think about it. Lightweight probe on a timer, notifications when the connection drops or restores, and a live response time meter when you open it.
Built entirely with Claude Code — pair programming where the AI is very fast and never gets tired. The core came together in a single day. After using it myself for a while, I thought — why not share it?
It's free, no ads, no account, no dock icon.
Curious: has anyone run into edge cases with this — VPNs, corporate proxies, captive portals? I'd love to know how it behaves on different setups.
And if there's a macOS problem you've always wished someone would solve — drop it below. Always looking for the next thing worth building.

Who hunted NetCheck?
NetCheck was hunted by Tulon. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
