Nell (Open Source Instinct)

A personal AI agent you text to get things done

Open Source Instinct - a personal AI agent you text to get things done. Book the table. Buy the tickets. Cancel the subscription. Watch for the drop. Nell works across your messages, your browser, and your accounts - and asks before it does anything it can't take back. Source-available · self-hostable · your keys, your data · it asks first.

Why I built this: I wanted a personal agent that actually does things - book the table, buy the ticket, watch for the drop - without handing a company my passwords, my inbox, and my card. Every hosted option asks for exactly that. Nell inverts it: self-hosted, your keys stay on your machine, and anything that spends money, sends a message, or touches a credential waits for your explicit yes. That gate is enforced in code, not by hoping the model behaves. License: source-available (FSL). Free forever to self-host at any scale, every version converts to Apache-2.0 two years after release. The one restriction is reselling it as a competing hosted service. Repo: https://github.com/iabdulwasey/Nell If you self-host it, the most useful thing you can send back is where it breaks. Open an issue with the ugliest failure you can produce - that list is the roadmap to stable.
