Nativ
Turn any PDF textbook into a personal AI language tutor
Nativ turns your own PDF textbooks into a personal AI language tutor. Upload once — the AI indexes the entire book (text + OCR for scans) and answers every question grounded in your actual content. Say "explain this page" and the AI already knows which page you're on. No more copy-pasting into ChatGPT. Features: TTS pronunciation listening, STT accuracy scoring, vocabulary notebook, highlights, and rich-text memos — all in one view. Supports 9 languages. Try as a guest, no sign-up needed.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I'm Jay, the solo maker behind Nativ.
The idea came from a personal frustration. I was self-studying German with a textbook and kept hitting walls — grammar rules I didn't understand, vocabulary I couldn't remember, pronunciation I had no way to practice. When I turned to ChatGPT, I had to explain the textbook context from scratch every single time. It felt backwards.
So I built Nativ: upload your PDF once, and every answer comes directly from your textbook. Ask "explain the grammar on this page" and the AI already knows what page you're on.
A few things I'm proud of:
• The RAG pipeline uses hybrid search (vector + keyword) with Reciprocal Rank Fusion — answers stay grounded in the actual text, not hallucinated
• Pronunciation practice works entirely in the browser via Web Speech API — no server roundtrip, instant feedback on accuracy
• Guest mode lets you try with a real PDF before creating any account, and all your work transfers seamlessly on sign-up
Still a lot to build (vocabulary quizzes, spaced repetition, better mobile UX), but I wanted to get it in front of real language learners early.
Happy to answer any questions about how it works — especially the AI/RAG side. What languages are you studying? 🌍
