MyChinaGuide
AI travel app for China — works offline, no VPN needed
Going to China is hard if you don't speak Chinese. Google is blocked. Maps don't work. You can't pay for water without Alipay. MyChinaGuide is the app we wish we could hand every friend flying in. 20+ city guides written by people who actually live here. Travel Q&A answered by real travelers, not AI filler. Panda AI for menu translation, trip planning, and questions on the ground

Hey PH, I'm an indie dev who travels a lot. Used a bunch of travel apps over the years — some good, most just okay. One thing I kept noticing lately is how many of them feel the same. AI-generated content, AI UI design, the usual "top 10 things to do" listicles that clearly nobody actually fact-checked. Content for the sake of content. I wanted to build something that's actually useful for people coming to China. Not a high-level overview with the usual 10 attractions everyone copies off each other — something closer to what you'd get if a friend who actually lives here sat down and wrote you a guide. So I've been writing it out piece by piece. Detailed city guides with real photos. Restaurant recommendations for every city — the places I'd actuallysend my own friends, not whatever ranks high on Web. Every major dish explained properly — not just the name in pinyin, but what it tastes like, what's in it, whether it's worth ordering. Real traveler questions, collected and answered one by one, by hand. That's what MyChinaGuide is. What's inside: - 20+ city guides written by me (Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xi'an, more coming) - Travel Q&A — real travelers, real answers - Panda AI for menus, signs, trip planning, on-the-ground questions - 3,500+ dishes with photos so ordering isn't scary - Offline survival kit: payments, SIMs, metro, taxi, emergencies - 115+ phrases that actually come up Free in Beijing and Shanghai. $12.99 one-time for the rest. No subscription. If you've been to China or you're planning to, I'd really love to hear your take. What did existing apps miss for you? I'll be around.
