Murmur
Talk to your Mac. A free, private voice assistant
Murmur is a free, open-source voice assistant for Mac. Hold fn and speak: it types where your cursor is, or does the job for you. It opens sites, summarises what you select, finds files by what’s inside them, and runs your Mac. Speech stays on-device.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I’m Shubham, and Murmur is my free voice assistant for Mac. Hold fn, speak, and it either types where your cursor is or does the task.
I loved dictation apps like Wispr Flow, but I wanted something free that doesn’t send my voice to a server and can actually get things done. So I built Murmur, which runs locally.
How it works:
• Speech is recognised on-device with NVIDIA Parakeet
• “Find my resume” searches inside your files with Google’s EmbeddingGemma 2, locally
• Commands run through Ollama (fully local), or Claude/OpenAI if you prefer
• It can drive your browser and apps: open sites, play videos, summarise or translate selected text, toggle Bluetooth or brightness
It’s MIT licensed and runs on Apple silicon with macOS 14+. Next I want to give it memory, so it learns your preferences over time.
I’d love to hear what you’d want to say to your Mac, and anything that breaks. I’ll be here all day answering questions!

Who hunted Murmur?
Murmur was hunted by Shubham Agrawal. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
