Murmur
Private notes that live in your own Google Sheet
A calm, Slack-like place for your messages and notes. Local-first, end-to-end encrypted, and autosaved to a Google Sheet you own. No servers, no tracking, open source.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Murmur because I wanted one quiet place for my notes that I actually owned — not another SaaS holding my data hostage.
The core idea: your notes live in your own Google Sheet, and the encryption key never leaves your browser (PBKDF2 → AES-GCM). The auth database that lets you log in across devices only ever sees ciphertext — it can't read your data or even tell where your sheet is. It's local-first, so it's instant and works offline, then syncs when you're back.
It's open source and self-hostable, so you never have to trust me — you can read the ~200 lines of crypto/auth yourself.
Would genuinely love feedback on the model and the UX. Happy to answer anything about the threat model 🙏
