Hi Product Hunt 👋 Meditations in Color started from a simple habit: collecting palettes from paintings I loved and using them in my own generative art practice. Over time I realized there wasn't really a place to study color across art history in a structured way. You can read about movements, artists, and techniques, but it is surprisingly difficult to explore how artists actually used color, how palettes evolved over decades, or how different artists relate through color alone. What began as a personal tool gradually became a larger archive. Today the platform contains over 19,000 artworks and 250+ artists, with tools for palette extraction, chromatic profiles, artist timelines, color comparisons, and algorithmic drawing systems built from historical palettes. I am also a digital artist who works with algorithms to create systems that generate artworks at the intersection of design, structure, and chance. Because of that, I wanted the project to be more than an archive. I wanted it to function as a drawing studio as well. The generative systems on the site are derived from my own artistic practice and use historical palettes as source material for creating new geometric studies. I'd love any feedback on the archive, visualizations, drawing systems, or ideas for where the project should go next. Happy to answer questions and hear what you'd like to see added.
