Hi Product Hunt! I’m Khang, and I built Math Notebook.
As a math lover, I’ve always preferred working out problems by hand. When I transitioned to digital note-taking, my setup was surprisingly primitive: I was literally using MS Paint and a mouse to scribble out equations. While it got the job done, it was painfully obvious that standard drawing tools aren't built for the complexities of mathematics.
I wanted an infinite digital workspace specialized entirely for math—a place where raw handwriting meets actual computational power. So, I built it myself.
The Development Process & Tech Stack:
To make the app truly recognize math, I didn't just want to rely on generic APIs. I trained my own custom machine learning model to handle the handwriting recognition (OCR) specifically for mathematical symbols.
Once the handwriting is digitized, I wired the core architecture together using some of the best computational packages available:
SymPy (Python CAS): Acts as the brain on the backend, handling the heavy symbolic computation, solving complex inequalities, and finding domain boundaries.
Mafs (React/WebGL): Powers the interactive, beautifully shaded graphs directly on the infinite canvas.
KaTeX: Ensures all the digitized math and solutions are formatted flawlessly.
The Result:
An infinite whiteboard where you can scribble an equation, instantly digitize it via the custom OCR model, and generate interactive WebGL graphs and solutions without ever typing a single line of LaTeX.
