Matchbox
Strike a match and focus until it burns out
Matchbox turns focus into a physical ritual. Strike a match against the box, watch it catch, and focus while that one match burns down. Blow into the mic to put it out early. • Match Block: while it burns, the apps you pick are locked away with Screen Time • Ten night scenes — snowfield, night rain, fireflies, sakura — each with its own ambience • One habit = one match. The box empties as your effort stacks up • Letterpress matchbox designs to collect, and a shake rattles the box Free to use.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
Every focus timer I tried felt the same: a number counting down. Nothing about it made me want to start. So I built the start into a ritual — you strike a match against the box, feel it catch through haptics, and then you're committed. The match is the timer.
A few things I got obsessive about:
🔥 The flame is a real 3D object with its own flicker, not a looping animation. The countdown fades away after a while so only the fire is left.
📵 Match Block: while the match burns, the apps you choose are locked away with Screen Time. Which apps you pick never leaves your phone.
🌙 Ten night scenes with their own ambience — snowfield, night rain, fireflies, night sakura. Snow falls, petals swirl, sometimes a shooting star.
💨 To stop early you blow into the mic and the flame actually goes out.
One habit = one match, so the box empties as your effort stacks up, and the vintage matchbox labels are there to collect. Solo build.
Does a ritual make you start, or would you rather just hit a button?

Who hunted Matchbox?
Matchbox was hunted by Ryo Tsuzukihashi. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
