I built Matcha Filter Remover after noticing that “matcha-filtered” images are surprisingly difficult to clean up with traditional photo-editing tools.
These images are not simply tinted green. The effect often introduces olive-yellow colors, embossed outlines, posterization, blocky artifacts, and painted textures. Adjusting hue, temperature, or curves may reduce the green cast, but it cannot naturally reconstruct the damaged photographic details.
My first attempts relied on generic image-editing prompts. The results looked attractive, but they frequently changed the person, background, objects, or composition. I then tested different image models and developed a more conservative reconstruction prompt that treats the visible structure of the image as locked.
Matcha Filter Remover now uses Seedream 5 Pro as its primary reconstruction model, with Nano Banana Pro as a fallback. The goal is to preserve the visible pose, framing, scene layout, clothing, and objects while recreating more natural colors, materials, and photographic texture.
An important clarification: this is AI reconstruction, not original-photo recovery. It cannot restore lost pixels, reveal hidden content, or guarantee exact identity and text details.
