Hey Product Hunt — I’m David, the solo maker behind Mark & Meter.
I built it because many reading tools add more chrome, feeds, accounts, or pressure. I wanted the opposite: a quiet space for the book you already own.
Mark & Meter opens EPUB, TXT, HTML, and pasted text locally in your browser. You can read in four different views:
• RSVP, for one word or short group at a fixed point
• Focus, with a steady visual anchor
• Sentence, when you want more context
• Paragraph, when the page should stay familiar
You can also tune typography and themes, or start a timed Focus Session with optional fullscreen and screen wake lock.
There are no accounts, ads, uploads, or book-content backend. Your books, progress, settings, and reading stats stay in your browser, and the app works offline after the first visit.
It’s free, and there’s an original sample so you can try it without finding a file first.
I’d especially value feedback on three things: Which reading mode feels most natural? Is the local-first privacy model immediately clear? What would make this useful in your real reading routine?
