MagButton™ Fidget
A new class of button. Patent-pending magnetic fidget.
A new class of button. MagButton replaces the spring inside every button you've ever pressed with magnets. The result isn't just a click, it's a snap. Clean, sharp, and honestly one of the most satisfying tactile sensations I've ever felt. I machined the body from solid aluminum and anodized it. Out on Kickstarter + full Youtube video explaining the story behind the mechanism.
Hi Product Hunt 👋 I'm Ricky, a hardware inventor based in Vancouver. I quit my job to rebuild the button from scratch.
That sounds dramatic, but here's the thing: every button you've ever pressed works the same way. A spring/dome compresses, stores energy, releases it. That's been the design for over a century. I kept thinking: what if you replaced the spring with magnets?
MagButton is what happened. Instead of spring compression, two opposing magnets create the actuation force. When you press through the snap point, the field flips and the button returns itself. The result is a sensation that's hard to describe until you feel it, not a click, a snap. Instantaneous. Sharp. Kind of addictive.
The Fidget is the first product built around this mechanism. CNC-machined aluminum, Type II anodize, no plastic. I designed it to be something you actually want to hold, dense, satisfying, built to last.
But the fidget is really a funding vehicle. The end goal is putting this mechanism inside real hardware, waterproof buttons for marine, medical, and industrial applications where springs corrode, fail, and get contaminated. No seals. Fewer parts. Same snap.
I've been building this solo for two years.
This Kickstarter is how it goes from prototype to real.
