Lunatic Fling
Lunatic Fringe-inspired space combat with a daily challenge
Lunatic Fling is Newtonian space combat for iPhone, iPad and Mac. No friction, a relativistic speed limit, a ship that falls apart one part at a time, black holes to slingshot around, and a new sector every day that the whole world flies. Free to play. No ads, no tracking.
Hey Product Hunt 👋 I’m Marc, and I built this solo (well, with my CTO Claude, obviously).
If you used a Mac in the 90s, you might remember Lunatic Fringe, the space shooter hiding inside the After Dark screensaver. Lunatic Fling is my tribute: a cel-shaded 3D remake with fun new enemies, new mechanics, and even a pesky black hole.
It runs on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. And while it plays great on iPhone, nothing beats a full keyboard and a big display, so try the Mac version if you can.
What makes it different from your average arcade shooter:
🚀 Real(ish) Newtonian physics. There’s no friction, just hilarious Newton’s-third-law dynamics. Plus a dash of Einstein, because of course: a relativistic speed limit, and a black hole that will happily spaghettify you.
💥 Your ship falls apart one piece at a time. Lose a thruster and you’ll feel it. Lose your canopy and, well, you’ve got problems. Thankfully, you’ve also got an escape pod.
📅 A new sector every day, the same one for everyone. Think Wordle for space combat. (Okay, that sounds weird.)
It’s free to play, with unlimited games and no ads or tracking. A one-time purchase unlocks Game Center saves and the global leaderboard.
I’d love your feedback on the controls and the difficulty curve, and I’d like to know your best score on today’s sector. I’ll be here all day answering questions. 🛸
