Luminette: A 1920s Camera for iPhone Duo
Luminette turns your iPhone into a box camera from 1927.
Luminette brings the magic of analog photography back to your iPhone. Inspired by a 1927 Kodak Brownie camera I found at a French flea market, it's designed to make every photo feel meaningful again. Load a roll of film, capture eight moments, and step into the darkroom to develop your photos yourself. No endless snapping, no instant gratification. Just the joy of slowing down and making memories. Beautifully crafted for iPhone, with a special experience designed for iPhone Duo.
It started in early June, at a flea market in France. I found an old Kodak Brownie camera from 1927. A simple box made of cardboard and covered in leather. It has no batteries! Just film, a lens and a shutter.
It made me think about how I take pictures. Snap, snap, snap, ten photos of the same subject. They end up in the cloud, and I never look at them again. Back in the 1920s, you had to think before taking a photo. You only had a limited number of chances to get the shot.
Luminette is my attempt to slow down photography. You load a roll of film, take eight photos, then develop them yourself. You even have to wait for them to dry. It almost feels like a game.
Luminette is now live on the App Store, on both iPhone and the brand new iPhone Duo. Try it out and please let me know what you think.
