Hi Product Hunt, I'm Jamie, and I made LookUp to try and get to know my city better.
It started with a habit: walking past the same sandstone tenements and civic palaces every day and realising I couldn't say what any of them were, or why they looked the way they did. Google Lens would tell me the style of a famous one. Nothing would tell me about the ordinary building on my street or how I could find out about others, so I built LookUp.
LookUp reads the building itself. Point the camera at anything with a roof and in a few seconds you get its architectural style, its period and materials, and "the tell": the one visual clue that lets you recognise the same style on the next street.
Then it becomes a game. Every building you capture joins your collection and lights up on your map. There are sets to complete (every church near you, every bridge, every theatre) with a walking route to follow. Over 1M landmarks worldwide and the greats of each city are drawn from real laser-survey data rather than clip art.
What's free: unlimited quick readings, the full map, and your 25 most recent captures. Pro adds the full readings, building stories read aloud as you walk, the laser-scanned silhouettes and your whole collection kept for good. There's a 7-day trial, and a lifetime option for people who hate subscriptions as much as I do.
