Hi Product Hunt 👋, greetings from Vietnam 🇻🇳 and Japan 🇯🇵

I built Look - a blazingly fast Launcher because Spotlight kept failing me.
Some days it was slow to show results while I waited to open an app.
Some days it put a random file above the app I typed the exact name of.
And sometimes it just lost my files until I rebuilt the index and waited hours.
I'm not alone: the Apple forums are full of the same complaints since macOS Tahoe.

So Look keeps its own index.
It doesn't depend on Spotlight at all, so when Spotlight's index breaks, Look keeps working.
Apps you use often rank first, and results appear as you type.

Then I wanted the same thing on my Windows and Linux machines, so Look runs on all three with one shared Rust core: native SwiftUI on macOS, and GPU-drawn on Windows and Linux with no browser engine.

What you get, all free:

• Apps, files, folders and clipboard history (text and images) from one shortcut
• Prefixes to jump straight to what you want: f" files, d" folders, c" clipboard, ps" processes (kill one, or find what's holding port 3000), t" translate
• Commands built in: calculator, Pomodoro timer, todo list with stats, internet speed test, shell. Type : and go
• Your own sources: drop a TOML file or any script into ~/.look/sources/ and its rows show up in search, ranked next to your apps, with your own actions on Cmd+K. Ready-made ones for SSH hosts, git repos, Docker, tmux, bookmarks and more are in the lookbook repo
• Switch between open apps with a number key
• Super Actions: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, media, keep-awake and more, one key each
• Make it yours: 9 themes, a compact or split layout, a background image, and every shortcut can be rebound
• On-device AI on macOS: ask with > to add or move calendar events, summarize or translate a file, or find "pdfs from last week". It can run fully on-device with Apple Intelligence or your own local Ollama models
• No account, no telemetry. Your index and clipboard stay on your machine, and web answers are optional, one switch turns them off

Officially in Homebrew-core (scoop, nixpkgs, AUR). Open source under GPLv3.

If something annoys you, tell me here or open an issue. I usually ship fixes within days.

Thanks for checking it out! 🙏
