Top comment

Hi Product Hunt! I'm Animesh. I built Lodestar because I wanted a fast, keyboard-first launcher for my Mac that was free, open source, and didn't need an account.

Press ⌥ Space and type a few letters. It opens apps and learns which ones you use most, keeps a clipboard history you can paste from with Return, finds emoji and symbols by name, does quick math, picks colors from the screen, and runs commands like Lock or Empty Trash. You can add your own commands with shell scripts or extensions in any language.

Everything stays on your Mac: no account, no analytics, no tracking. The only network request it makes on its own is a daily update check to GitHub, and you can turn that off. It's MIT-licensed and runs on macOS 13+.

I'd love your feedback, especially on what's missing from your daily workflow. Snippets and quicklinks are next on the roadmap. Issues and pull requests are welcome on GitHub.
