I have years of Markdown on my machine I have not opened since the week I wrote it: 870 voice notes, Notion pages, a LinkedIn back catalog. None of it wrong, all of it just sitting there, and my AI had read exactly none of it. So every session started the same way: re-explain the product, re-explain who we sell to, re-explain what we decided last month. Then do same thing again tomorrow. The fix everyone offers is another app to feed: capture the note, tag it, file it, keep it current, forever. I have started three of those and abandoned three of those. Locul does not ask for any of that. It reads the folders your work already lives in, plus Notion, Obsidian, your Wispr Flow and Contextli dictations, and your LinkedIn posts. Nothing moves; nothing gets imported. Then Claude and Codex query it over MCP, so when you ask for a launch email, it starts from your actual positioning instead of a blank page. The part I did not expect to care about is the upkeep. It re-reads everything daily, and when you change your mind, it retires the old version rather than keeping both. For example, I killed a paid-ads plan in June, and my AI stopped recommending paid ads. That is a small thing that turns out to be the whole difference between a memory and a pile. How the privacy side works: Your files and dictations are read locally. The AI that distills them can run fully on your device through Ollama or LM Studio, and in that mode, nothing is sent anywhere. Cloud sync is on by default once you sign in, so your memories sync to our cloud unless you switch to local-only in settings. One toggle, and it works. Most people leave sync on because they want the same brain on their laptop and desktop. If you'd rather nothing left the machine, local-only is there. Also: Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, and OpenClaw do auto-connect. Cursor is manual setup for now. ChatGPT is copy-paste only, not connected. Free contains 500 memories with your own model or API key, forever. Mac and Windows.
