Hi Product Hunt, I'm Damir, the maker of LocationInspector.
I built it because listing photos and reviews rarely tell you what the street is like at 11 pm, or whether there's a grocery store nearby.
How it works:
1. Paste an address or an Airbnb, Booking.com or Google Maps link.
2. Places, shops and transit stops come from OpenStreetMap.
3. Safety is rated separately for day and night. The baseline is official figures (UNODC homicide rates, US and UK travel advice, Eurostat), adjusted by local reporting. In England, Wales, Northern Ireland and five large US cities it also uses police-recorded crime. Every report lists its sources, and the full method is at locationinspector.com/methodology.
4. Airbnb hides exact addresses, so the report covers about 500 m around the shown location and says so.
5.Reports never show who searched, and pasted links aren't stored.
Reports are free (3 a day, 5 with an account). A Trip Pass (€9.99 for 30 days, doesn't renew) or Plus (€49/year) lets you compare up to 5 places ranked by your priorities, adds travel times to your own places and the full night & noise section.
I'd especially like to hear where a score looks wrong for a place you know.
