I built listenw.us because listening to music with friends online still sucked. Discord streams desync and compress the audio, "watch together" sites feel like 2012, and Spotify's group sessions need everyone on Premium.
listenw.us is a listening room: you create a room, queue songs from YouTube, and everyone hears the same beat at the same moment — actually in sync, corrected continuously against the server clock, not "roughly at the same time."
What's inside:
Rooms — create one in two clicks, share a link, friends join even without an account (guest mode)
Shared queue — everyone can add or request songs, DJs control playback, listeners can vote-skip
24/7 radio stations — always-on genre stations (lofi, synthwave, jazz, hip-hop…) that run themselves
Chat, synced lyrics, playlists — plus profiles, follows, and charts built from what people actually listen to
Desktop app — with Discord Rich Presence, so your status shows what room you're vibing in
Free — no account needed to join a room, no Premium requirement
The hardest part was the sync engine: every device has different buffering latency, so we align playback at track start using each client's measured startup latency and an NTP-style clock offset. When it works, you and a friend on different continents hear the drop at the same instant. That moment is the whole product.
