I’m the founder of Lekkerstock, and I’m so excited to share what we’ve been building.
What inspired you to build this?
The inspiration came from a deep frustration with how Africa is represented globally. Whenever I looked for stock footage or photos of the continent, I was met with two things: outdated stereotypes or generic content that didn't feel "real." At the same time, I saw incredibly talented African creators being underpaid on global platforms. I wanted to build a bridge between that untapped talent and the global demand for authentic representation.
What problem were you trying to solve?
We’re solving two main problems:
The Representation Gap: Helping brands and agencies move away from generic "African" visuals to content that captures the true vibrancy, modern innovation, and cultural diversity of the continent.
The Creator Compensation Gap: We’ve flipped the industry standard by offering our creators 60-70% royalties, ensuring the people telling these stories are the ones who benefit most.
How did your approach evolve while working on this launch?
Initially, we focused purely on photography. However, as we spoke to more creators and agencies, we realized the massive need for high-quality African video, unique illustrations, and even 3D assets. This led us to expand Lekkerstock into a multi-asset platform that serves the modern digital creator’s full workflow.
