Hey Product Hunt! I’m excited to finally share this.
The idea came from a frustrating personal experience. I needed to file a small claims case and spent hours bouncing between government websites trying to figure out the filing fee, the claim limit, and the court name—for one state. Then I wondered: What if I needed to compare across states, or look up divorce fees, or determine a notary cap? It was a mess.
That's the problem LegalCostCalculator solves. We went directly to official .gov court websites for all 50 states and pulled the actual fee data and built interactive calculators around it—completely free, no account is needed.
What evolved most during the build was scope. We started with small claims limits, then realized people needed the same thing for LLC formation, divorce filing, and notary fees. Then county-level data started coming in—it turns out the difference between a $80 and $400 divorce filing fee can It comes down to which county you're in. So we added 197+ counties.
We now have 2,900+ pages covering every state/county combination across five legal cost categories. All data is sourced from official court websites and verified as of 2026.
