LastFile

Your latest files. One click away.

LastFile is a lightweight macOS menu bar utility that keeps the files you just created or saved within reach. Choose the folders you want to watch, and new or updated files appear automatically. Open them, reveal them in Finder, copy their path, or drag & drop them straight into another app. Everything runs locally on your Mac — no account, no cloud, no tracking in the app, and no subscription. One-time purchase.

Top comment

Hey Product Hunt! I built LastFile because of a tiny annoyance I kept running into every day: I'd save, export, download, or generate a file, switch to something else, and a minute later I'd be digging through Finder trying to find it again. I wanted something simpler: I just made this file — now let me do something with it. That's what LastFile became. It sits quietly in the macOS menu bar and watches only the folders you choose. When a new or updated file appears, it's immediately available to open, reveal in Finder, copy, copy its path, or — my favorite — drag & drop straight into another app. I deliberately kept it small and local-first. There's no account, no cloud, no tracking in the app, and no subscription. This is my first app released on the Mac App Store after 20+ years of building software, and getting it from a tiny idea all the way through development, design, App Store review, and launch has been a fun ride. I'd love to hear what you think — especially what workflows you'd use LastFile for, or what you'd like to see in future versions. — Ondřej
