Lacuna

Find what's eating your Mac's storage and clear it safely

Lacuna shows exactly where your Mac's storage went and helps you clear it safely. • Fast: a Rust scanner reads millions of files in seconds • Exact: totals match du, hard links counted once • Safe: you review every path, then it goes to the Trash • Private: no network access, no account, no tracking • Free and open source (MIT), 6.6 MB, Apple silicon and Intel

Top comment

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I built Lacuna because my Mac kept running low on space and I wanted to see exactly what was taking it, without paying for an app or sending my file list anywhere. What makes it different: ⚡ Fast: the scanner is written in Rust and reads whole folders per system call across 16 threads. On my machine it scanned 6.2 million files in 32 seconds. 🎯 Exact: totals match macOS's own du command, to the kilobyte. 🗑️ Safe: nothing is deleted outright. You collect items, see every path and the total, and they go to the Trash so you can put them back. 🔒 Private: no network access, no analytics, no account. 🌗 Feels native: light and dark mode, keyboard shortcuts, and a 6.6 MB download. It's free and MIT licensed: github.com/nakel-ola/lacuna One heads-up: Lacuna isn't notarized by Apple yet, so the first launch needs System Settings → Privacy & Security → "Open Anyway". It's a one-time step. I'd love your feedback. What should I build next?
