Knocky

A location-aware doorbell that works from any QR code

Knocky turns a printed QR code into a web doorbell for homes and apartments. Visitors scan it, share their location, and can ring or start a temporary chat only when they are physically near the address. Owners receive real-time notifications and can reply with text, images, or audio. No app is required for visitors, and precise location data is used only for the proximity check.

Top comment

I built Knocky to replace apartment intercoms and exposed phone numbers with something simple: a QR code on the door. The hard part was preventing remote abuse, so Knocky verifies that the visitor is actually near the address before enabling the ring or temporary chat. Visitors need no app, owners can respond in real time, and location is used only for the proximity check. I’d love feedback on the onboarding and whether you would use this at a home, apartment, office, or rental.

Who hunted Knocky?

Knocky was hunted by Jorge Arraga. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
