Kegwatch

Keep every Mac app up to date, from one place

A free macOS updater for Homebrew, Cask, Mac App Store, and Sparkle/Electron apps — from one place.

ey PH 👋 I like solving small everyday annoyances in a click or two, and keeping my Mac apps updated was one that kept nagging me. They were scattered everywhere: some in Homebrew and Cask, some in the Mac App Store, and some that update themselves through Sparkle or Electron. I was checking each one by hand and always losing track of what was actually out of date. So I built Kegwatch for myself: one list that pulls updates from all those sources and installs them in a click, through your real brew binary so nothing is locked into the app. Two things I ended up caring about most: it can move a manually-installed app into Homebrew (if a cask exists) so it starts updating with everything else, and it runs in the menu bar on a schedule and just notifies me when something needs updating. The approach evolved a lot around one hard part: detecting update feeds for apps that aren't in any package manager. That is where most of the work went, and it is still the roughest edge. Being upfront about the limits: it won't catch every app (some don't expose any feed), App Store items still open the App Store to actually install, and it's not open source. It's free, notarized, macOS 15+. No analytics, no tracking. I'd love feedback, especially the harsh kind. What would make an updater like this worth keeping in your menu bar?
