Live app: https://kanjido.vercel.app (Recommend for mobile view) - What it does: A gamified kanji learning app. Pick a kanji, pick a word, guess the meaning or reading under a 30-second timer, earn stars. Content mapped to JLPT levels (N5-N1). Vietnamese-first UI, English supported. Last year someone close to me said: "I wish someone would just turn Kanji learning into a game." She had failed N2 multiple times. We lost touch after that - completely cut contact. But I remembered what she said. Months later I had a free weekend. So I built it. Not for her specifically - she may never know it exists. But for myself (someone who loves Japanese culture but finds kanji overwhelming) and for anyone stuck in that same wall. It's a late promise kept. Whether she sees it or not doesn't matter. It exists because she asked. Existing tools fail at Kanji specifically: - Duolingo teaches sentences, not kanji structure. Kanji is an afterthought. - Anki is pure memorization. Effective but soul-crushing - nobody opens Anki because they want to. - Traditional methods = write 50 times, repeat. Works for disciplined people. I'm not one of them. My question: how do I make someone who hates rote memorization (me) open this app every day?
