These came out of one observation: almost every question about planning a Japan trip has a numeric answer, and almost every travel page answers it with three paragraphs of prose. "Is the rail pass worth it" is arithmetic. "Will the blossoms be out" is arithmetic. So we built the arithmetic.
Five calculators:
• Trip Cost — days, travellers, style and season in, an itemised budget out
• Itinerary Builder — trip length and interests in, a printable day-by-day route out
• Cherry Blossom Planner — the reverse of every sakura page: you give it your dates, it tells you which of 16 cities will be flowering
• Packing List Generator — by month, including the Japan-specific things every list misses (a coin purse, a hand towel, a bag for your rubbish — public bins are rare)
• JR Pass Calculator — which usually tells you *not* to buy the rail pass, because on most first trips point-to-point tickets win
All of them run entirely in your browser. No signup, no email, nothing stored — close the tab and it's gone.
Two things I'd genuinely like feedback on: whether the itinerary builder's routes look sane to anyone who has been, and whether the blossom tool is honest enough about its margin of error (it uses the JMA 30-year averages, which are averages, not a forecast — real years land about a week either side).
