Hi Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Altaf, the maker. I built iTafakkur because I was tired of juggling 5 different Islamic apps to do my daily prayer, dhikr, Qibla, and Quran practice. None of them felt right — too many ads, too many subscriptions, or just clunky UX.
So I spent 6 months building the one I wanted. Solo, no team, no VC. I had no coding background before this — I learned React Native, FastAPI, and Supabase by shipping into them, using ChatGPT and Claude as my pair programmers.
Tech stack for anyone curious:
- Frontend: Expo + React Native + TypeScript
- Backend: FastAPI on Railway
- Database: Supabase (Postgres + Auth + Storage)
- LLM: OpenAI gpt-4o-mini for the chat feature
- 11 languages translated via a custom OpenAI batch script
- Sentry + PostHog for monitoring
What I'd love your feedback on:
1. Onboarding flow — too long? Too short?
2. Dhikr counter UX — does it feel good to tap repeatedly?
3. Anything that feels off as a non-Muslim user — accessibility, weird copy, confusing nav
Happy to answer anything about the technical stack, the indie journey, or how I curated the Islamic content (every verse, hadith, and lesson was reviewed for accuracy).
