Hi Product Hunt! 👋 I’m the maker of Which Is Older? Art Quiz. I wanted to build an art game that didn’t require people to already know art history. Most art quizzes ask things like: “Who painted this?” “What is this artwork called?” “What movement does it belong to?” Those are fun if you already know a lot about art, but I wanted to start somewhere much simpler: Just look at two artworks and ask: Which one is older? That single question changes how you look at an artwork. You start noticing the clothing, materials, technique, colors, shapes, and tiny details you might normally ignore. For this project, I processed hundreds of thousands of artwork records from The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Open Access data and built the game around data from approximately 247,000 works. One of my favorite things about the game is seeing works from completely different places and categories appear together. A sculpture and a photograph, a ceramic object and a painting, or two works that look centuries apart but were actually made around the same time. You don’t need any art knowledge to play.
