inkScript

Your e-reader into a typewriter

inkScript uses your e-reader’s browser to give you an eInk distraction-free writing environment. Touch the screen to move your cursor, select a portion of your text to copy it, move it or apply styling. Organize your texts into folders, search through them, pin them for quick access, etc. The actual text is stored in iCloud, the app runs on iOS and macOS — just use whatever device you prefer at the moment.

I had been fascinated with typewriters and ink pens from early childhood, and got my first e-reader as soon as they appeared on the market; so in a way this product is a natural outgrowth of my hobbies. But I was also inspired by another application, SolarWriter, which did the same trick: make an eInk distraction-free environment out of the gadgets you already own, namely an iPhone and an e-reader. The only thing I needed to buy was a Bluetooth keyboard. Once I got it, I noticed that the actual user experience was not as good as expected. So I decided to make my own application. While I was doing that, I saw that I could use Kindle’s touch events to make eInk paper “interactive”, and this seemed so much cooler. After using this application myself for some time, I saw that a drafting tool is not enough: you need to be able to search through the texts, to put them into folders, to pin them, etc. — and so I worked on that too. Another important feature of inkScript is a native Mac version. You can't expect many users to buy an external keyboard just because they got interested in an application. It's important that you can have a full experience without getting a keyboard just for that app. I imagine my app will give users the best of both worlds. In a time when people are oversaturated with AI writing, typing on an eInk screen gives you more pleasure and much better chances of preserving your voice. On the other hand, your editing tools are not crippled and you don't need to waste time getting your texts on a computer or a phone, because they are already there.
