Hey Product Hunt,
I built Ikie because I was frustrated with how expensive AI coding assistants had become.
Every long refactor session with the existing tools felt like watching money burn. They re-uploaded the entire context on every turn, charged premium subscriptions, and still left me manually running tests and fixing the errors they introduced. I wanted an AI pair programmer that was fast, verifiable, and cheap enough to use all day.
So I made Ikie.
Ikie is a terminal-based coding assistant that focuses on three things:
Cost efficiency through prompt caching. Real session: 40 multi-turn queries on a 90K+ token context cost $1.06 total. That makes AI coding accessible to hobbyists, freelancers, and bootstrapped teams.
Autonomous self-healing. After every mutating edit, Ikie runs your project's test command from .ikie.json. If something breaks, it reads the failure, reflects, and retries up to three times.
Smart local context retrieval. A zero-dependency TF-IDF retriever finds the files you actually need, with code-aware tokenization and lazy index rebuilds.
It is open-source friendly, has a free Hobby plan, and supports custom MCP servers and skills.
