Hvelv

Safe Mac storage for coding agent

Hvelv safely reclaims Mac storage, protects unfinished coding-agent work, and restores encrypted sessions from your own cloud vault.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I built Hvelv because I kept running out of disk space. I live in agentic tools all day (opencode, Claude Code, the usual suspects), and between repos, build caches, Docker layers, worktrees and months of agent sessions, my Mac would just quietly fill up. The fix was always the same annoying loop: burn tokens asking an agent to crawl my filesystem, read back a wall of du output, and then hope it didn't delete something I still needed. That felt backwards. Storage cleanup shouldn't cost me context window. So Hvelv does the crawling locally and hands over the answer instead of the raw data. It looks at filesystem, process, Git and agent-session evidence together, so it knows the difference between a build cache you can nuke and a worktree with uncommitted work in it. You can open the app and see what's eating your disk in seconds, or talk to it over MCP so your agent gets a straight answer instead of a thousand-line directory listing. A few things I care about: Local-first. Analysis happens on your machine. Nothing gets shipped off for scanning. Conservative by default. Active work and live context are protected. Hvelv suggests, you decide. Cold sessions don't have to die. You can encrypt and archive old agent sessions to your own cloud storage, then restore them by name when you need that thread back. That last one matters to me more than the gigabytes. The reason I hoarded all those sessions in the first place is that sometimes you need to go back and find the thread. Hvelv is my attempt to make room without losing it. It's macOS only for now. I'd genuinely love to hear what's eating your disk, what you'd want protected by default, and which tools you'd want supported next. I'll be around all day answering everything.
